Mussel invasion

A research team from the Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) at NUS, supervised by alumni Dr Tan Koh Siang and Dr Serena Teo, has successfully identified the presence of an invasive mussel species in Singapore. Originally from the Atlantic and Pacific coast off South America and the Pacific coast off Central America, the mussel, identified as Mytella strigata, was found along the north-west coast of Singapore and on floating pontoons in the East Johor Straits.

First person – Yiliu (Charlie) Zhang

First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Yiliu was a graduate student from A/P Cynthia He's Lab and currently, Research Fellow in the lab of Sudipto Roy at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), Singapore, investigating the development and functions of multi-ciliated cells in vertebrates.

Poor schoolboy in National Day Parade film meets kind teacher again - after 46 years

Mr Veera's story, along with Mrs Chee Siew Chuan's kind act, was featured in a 10-minute film that was shown during this year's National Day Parade. The film tells the story of five Singaporeans who have overcome adversity.
