Mussel invasion

A research team from the Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) at NUS, supervised by alumni Dr Tan Koh Siang and Dr Serena Teo, has successfully identified the presence of an invasive mussel species in Singapore. Originally from the Atlantic and Pacific coast off South America and the Pacific coast off Central America, the mussel, identified as Mytella strigata, was found along the north-west coast of Singapore and on floating pontoons in the East Johor Straits.

Local Marine Scientists - who they are, what they do and what motivates them

The NRF’s Marine Science Research and Development Programme presented a series of videos about young local marine scientists, many of whom are our alumni – what they do, why they want to do what they do, and what motivates them! These light-hearted videos hopes to inspire and encourage secondary school students and young adults in Singapore to pursue a career in marine sciences.
