The Department of Biological Sciences, is now accepting applications to the inaugural Singapore Bioinformatics Workshop 4-5 November 2004, proudly organized and sponsored by the Department of Biological Sciences, NUS and Blueprint Asia.

This intensive full two-day workshop will be instructed by Dr. Christopher Hogue, a distinguished bioinformatician and co-founder of the prestigious Canadian Bioinformatics Workshop.
About Dr. Christopher Hogue
  • Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Toronto and Adjunct A/P in the Department of Biological Sciences, NUS.
  • Published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature and Science.
  • GenBank Fellow in NIH, NCBI. Developed the widely used program, Cn3D, for visualizing biological molecules.
  • Principal investigator of Blueprint Initiative located in Toronto and Singapore.

In four sessions combining theoretical lectures and practical assignments, participants will gain a sophisticated mastery of several bioinformatics resources that can be applied to their own research.

Workshop topics will include:

  • Biology in Databases
  • Fast Database Searching
  • Protein Domain Architecture
  • From Sequence to Structure and Function.

Application is open to all NUS students and research fellows at M.Sc. level or above who are actively engaged in a wet-bench biological research project. Please note that attendance is limited to only 50 participants, and admission is competitive. Applicants are required to apply and submit a half-page summary on their research projects and obtain the endorsement of their supervisors. The signed forms can be sent to:
