Neuro-electrophysiology workshop on Patch-clamp and imaging methods, 3-4 Mar 2003

Poster annoucement of workshop

pic2This 2-day long workshop was organized by NNI/NUS to introduce scientists to the procedures needed to apply patch-clamp and imaging methods to brain slices. These powerful technologies are widely used to study synaptic signaling and ion channels in the brain but have only recently been introduced to Singapore. The lectures were presented on the mornings of Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 March 2003 by George Augustine, the G.B. Geller Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Duke University Medical Center. The afternoons were dedicated to intensive laboratory sessions that allowed participants to acquaint themselves with the practical aspects of these techniques. These sessions featured state-of-the-art equipment and ran from 2:00PM until 10:30PM in the evening. More than 80 people participated in the lectures, from institutes and Universities as far as UWA of Australia, while the lab sessions were limited to 20 participants. Because of high demand for hands-on experience, the laboratory sessions were extended until the evening of 8 March. Equipment used in the workshop was provided in part by Nikon Singapore and by Axon Instruments.
