The Life Sciences Career Day 2005 - An Interactive Forum with Life Sciences Companies

The first Life Science Career Day, organizing by the Faculty of Science, the Life Sciences Coordinating Committee and Department of Biological Sciences, was held on 21 June 2005.

The half day event, held at LT 31 at the Faculty of Science, NUS, drew an audience of over 200 Life Sciences students and fresh graduates at the undergraduate and graduate level to attend talks and exhibitions by 5 invited companies from the Life Sciences industry.

Participating companies who kindly agreed to give 20 minutes talk on their company profiles and manpower needs include Blueprint Initiative Asia Pte. Ltd, Johnson and Johnson, Lilly Systems Biology Pte Ltd, Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases Pte Ltd and S*BIO Pte Ltd.

The NUS Career Centre also participated in providing much needed advice for job seekers. Dean of Science Assoc. Prof. Tan Eng Chye gave an opening address and, together with Head of Department of Biological Sciences Prof. Hew Choy Leong, chaired a forum with representatives of the participating Life Sciences companies to address questions and issues raised by the students who will form the workforce in this industry in the near future.

The success of this workshop seeded plans to hold another Life Sciences Career workshop again within 2005, this time involving EDB and move companies in the Life Sciences industry.
