Research Opportunities

Undergraduate research opportunities program in science (UROPS)
This program aims to provide undergraduate students in Years 2 and 3, with a unique opportunity to work with one or more scientists in a specific area of study. It allows undergraduate students to engage actively in research, discussions, intellectual communications and other creative activities, and to experience at first hand the exhilaration of discovery and invention. Students are presented the challenge of working at the frontiers of Science and this exposure complements the conventional classroom learning. Students undertake all phases of research activities that include reading scientific journals, designing and execution of experiments, analyzing data and presenting results.

Honors research project
The honors program comprises of Level 4 modules, inclusive of an essential research project. The research project typically involves supervision by a faculty in any of the departments of Life Sciences and/or an adjunct faculty from the research institutes or centers. This research attachment aims to familiarize students with more advanced techniques and to develop research skills. The final assessment will reflect this emphasis. The course includes: (a) a comprehensive literature search (b) independent but supervised laboratory work (c) a seminar presentation (d) submission of a research report and/or (e) an oral examination.
