Voyager-DE™ STR Biospectrometry™ Workstation

General Description

The Voyager-DE STR Biospectrometry Workstation is a Matrix Assisted Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS). It has been upgraded with Protein Solutions I Software and a PC Server to perform automated searches for sample identification by comparing Peptide Mass Fingerprints using the protein database.

The system has Delayed Extraction feature for enhanced resolution of mass/charge ions. The instrument can be used in the reflectron mode for peptides and polypeptides. For larger molecules such as proteins, it must be used in the linear mode, where resolution is lower.

The system is also suitable for determination of molecular weights of synthetic polymers.

Turn-around-times:

The average turn-around time for results is one 1 week.

Sample Requirements:

Samples sent for M. W. determination must be supplied as solids or as solutions in volatile solvents with concentrations >1µM (usually 5-50µl volumes). Samples must be free of detergents, involatile salts, and other modifiers.

Samples submitted for protein identification must be supplied as excised gel bands or spots with protein amount >1µg (usually visible after Coomassie-blue staining is better, (but medium to high intensity silver stained proteins bands/spots may also be acceptable) with the-D or 2-D gel image.
