DNAC@NIE
The DNA Centre @ NIE (DNAC) is a facility established with the objective
of supporting teachers in the teaching of DNA science and other aspects
of the life sciences in schools. The DNAC is developed at the National
Institute of Education with the support of the Ministry of Education,
and is involved in a close collaboration with the Dolan DNA Learning
Centre of the renowned Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.
It houses state-of-the-art laboratories for experiential learning
of teachers in the life sciences, and aims to be a one-stop resource
centre to meet teachers’ needs, both in continual education
and in the development of course and project materials for their schools.
In order to cater to the wide range in interests and needs among teachers,
the DNAC will offer courses that meet specific requirements, each
of which can form a part of a step-wise, long-term adventure of discovery
offered by the Centre. From the teacher with little or no acquaintance
with the life sciences, to the recent molecular biology graduate,
the DNAC hopes to be a relevant, meaningful and exciting place for
learning.
Visit to DNAC@NIE is scheduled for 9 December at 1445 hours to 1545
hours. This is a one-hour special visit for only 30 participants and
is on a first-come-first serve basis.
