MAJOR RESEARCH INTERESTS

Regulatory molecules in cellular signalling pathways serve as molecular switches that tightly regulate the activity of associated enzymes. Defining the interactions of regulatory switches with their target enzymes as well as role of posttranslational modifications, is key to understanding the molecular basis of cell signalling. Our research focuses on unraveling specific protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions in signaling enzymes. We are focusing our efforts on the various elements of the second messenger, adenosine 3', 5' cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) signalling pathway, in particular cAMP-dependent protein kinase (Protein Kinase A) and cAMP phosphodiesterases. We are also interested in studying phosphorylation and ligand-dependent conformational changes at protein interfaces. Research areas include:

  • Molecular recognition and protein-protein interactions
  • Phosphorylation and ligand-dependent regulation of signalling proteins
