Polymerase Chain Reaction & Agarose Gel Electrophoresis Workshop
A half-day hands-on Session for Pre-University Students
Date : Open
The Department of Biological Sciences at NUS is offering a half-day workshop to pre-university students who are keen to get hands-on experience involving Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) & Agarose Gel Electrophoresis. Students will learn theory and practical skills, guided by our own NUS researchers, postgraduates and technical staff. This would be an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience working in a university laboratory.
- To learn the theoretical principles of PCR
- To gain hands-on familiarity with the procedures involved in PCR amplification of DNA
- To develop a basic understanding of electrophoretic theory
- To gain hands-on familiarity with the procedures involved in agarose gel electrophoresis to separate DNA molecules.
Eligibility: Pre-university students from local junior colleges or private schools. Schools are encouraged to submit group registrations for their students. Minimum participation of 20 students required to commence a session.
Workshop Fee: $25/pax
Venue: Life Sciences Lab (s), Science Drive 4, Department of Biological Sciences, NUS
