Sound production in mangrove crabs, crab larval development and gastric mill morphology of brachyuran crabs.
Systematics and taxonomy of crabs from the superfamily Graposidea (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura); larval development studies, biology and distribution of grapsoid crabs, and biology and distribution of crabs from extreme environment like shallow water hydrothermal vents, mountains and caves.
For my thesis, I worked on the systematics of the crab from the family Varunidae. I am trying to publish the various revisions I have made in my thesis. Beside the morphological studies, I am working with international colleagues on the molecular phylogeny of selected genera of crabs from the family Varunidae. The larval development studies of the varunid crabs are also being studied. I am also working on the diversity and taxonomy of selected groups of marine brachyuran crabs. The studies on the gastric mills structures of grapsoid crabs, some of the marine and freshwater crabs are also being carried out.
Additional Research Interests
I have also previously worked on caridean shrimps from the genus Caridina very briefly. Currently, I am also looking into the systematics of the hermit crabs from the genus Parugus.
