Our Mission
The Department is committed to provide insights into university education and a taste of what the Life Sciences has to offer.
Tapping on our expertise, a wide variety of programs are routinely offered each year. Our programs include outreach talks on topics stemming from research in our core disciplines — Biophysical Sciences; Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology; and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology — and workshops customized for Pre-university students seeking an early start in life science research. Topics of special interest can also be arranged upon request.

Amgen Scholars Program
The Amgen Scholars Program aims to inspire the next generation of innovators by providing undergraduate students with hands-on summer research opportunities at premier educational and research institutions across the globe. NUS is one of the host institute in the Asia program and aims to nurture current undergraduate students who are committed and looking to further their career in biology or related sciences through graduate studies.

Summer Course: Chemistry of Life
The DBS Summer Course, titled “Chemistry of Life,” is offered by the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). This two-week intensive course is designed to introduce students to cutting-edge biological knowledge and techniques used in research labs and industries. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct research and learn at one of the world’s top universities, while also connecting with peers from around the globe.

NUS Science Summer Institute
The NUS Faculty of Science launched the Science Summer Institute (SSI) in 2024. The NUS SSI is a flagship initiative to bring together senior undergraduates from the Asia Pacific for an intensive Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) experience to update them on the frontiers of scientific R&D. For talented students, we hope that the SSI and Symposium can act as a catalyst towards graduate studies in STEM fields.
