Understanding life's diversity and how it responds to a rapidly changing planet
Located in one of the world’s most biodiverse and yet most rapidly changing tropical regions, NUS provides an exceptional base for discovering how biodiversity originates, functions and persists.
Our research integrates ecology, evolution, behaviour, systematics, conservation and sustainability science, from genes and species to communities and ecosystems. We combine field research and experiments with genomics, remote sensing, mathematical modelling and data science to understand biological diversity and develop evidence-based responses to environmental change.
Research extends across tropical forests, freshwater systems, coral reefs, coasts and urban environments, with Singapore and Southeast Asia providing powerful settings for research with global relevance.
Key areas:
Biodiversity, systematics and evolution
Tropical and urban ecology
Behavioural and evolutionary biology
Conservation and restoration
Climate change and nature-based solutions
