Cell, Molecular & Developmental Biology (CMDB)

Discovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms that build, maintain and adapt living organisms

We investigate how genes, molecules and cells interact to control development, physiology and responses to the environment. Our research spans diverse biological systems, enabling fundamental discoveries with implications for human health, biotechnology, agriculture and food security.

Major themes include cell signalling and gene regulation, developmental and stem cell biology, host–pathogen interactions, functional genomics and plant molecular biology. Across these areas, we use contemporary molecular, genomic, cellular and computational approaches to understand how biological systems function in health, disease and changing environments.

Key areas:

  • Cell signalling and gene regulation
  • Developmental and stem cell biology
  • Host–pathogen interactions and infection biology
  • Genomics, metabolism and cellular function
  • Plant molecular biology and development
