Job Description

The following outlines the essential functions of the position and is not a detailed description of all duties inherent in the position:
• provide technical support in teaching, research and core laboratories.
• run trials of experiments for teaching activities/practicals.
• work with students and researchers and support them on research projects.
• assist in budget monitoring for practical modules and principal investigators research grants which include budgeting and carrying out procurements.
• conduct risk assessments for laboratories. Assist in the administration and maintenance of safety in the teaching, research and core laboratories.
• undertake scheduled maintenance tasks in both teaching, research and core laboratories including the testing of safety showers and eye washes, health and safety audits, wardens check lists, and maintenance tasks as directed by the laboratory lead.
• assist in teaching field equipment and ensuring asset / inventory records are in order.
• collect specimens and materials between work areas and campuses, as required
• assist in maintaining the core facilities for teaching and research use.
• support in renovation and maintenance matters.

 

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • At least a good Science degree in Life Sciences or relevant/related disciplines.
    • Relevant experience in molecular biology techniques and technical skills in microscopy preferred.
    • Significant technical experience in biodiversity field, plant/fish/animal work are additional credits.
    • Prior experience working in life sciences or biodiversity laboratories and handling laboratory safety matters would be an advantage.
    • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) and ability to multi-task.
    • Able to work well independently as well as in a team.
    • Willing to learn with a positive attitude.

Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.
