The NUS Centre for Bioimaging Sciences
CBIS Laboratory Facilities
The CBIS open labs are located on level 1 of building S1A and have been designed to encourage interdisciplinary interaction between approximately 80-90 faculty, staff, and students. Individuals from different labs are assigned at random to a lab bench and desk to encourage the maximum exchange of ideas.
CBIS Laboratory Equipment and Facilities
The Centre’s experimental floor is organized around five specially designed optical rooms housing custom designed and built microscopes, five core equipment rooms, a large tissue culture room, and a central space containing wet benches for 60 researchers. The close proximity of tissue culture, lab bench, and equipment rooms ensures rapid transfer of sample to microscopes.
The Centre’s communal wet benches are randomly assigned to researchers and students of different research groups, aimed to encourage interdisciplinary interactions and to foster scientific collaborations. The laboratory has five specially designed optical rooms, each housing a wide range of advanced microscopy systems, custom-built to specifications that meet the needs of each research group.
Besides the communal bench space, research equipment such as tissue culture hoods, deep freezers, centrifuges and incubators are also housed in the four equipment rooms and a large tissue culture room. These facilities are shared among all research groups. The close proximity between the wet benches, microscopy systems, tissue culture to other lab equipment enables the seamless and rapid transfer of samples.
